RJA13 : OOFT!

RJA13 : OOFT!: "emTo celebrate the 10th and final release on L.E.S.S. Productions, OOFT! have created this mix of memorable tunes from the L.E.S.S. vaults.
Fitting all 45 tracks that have been released on the label proved a job too far to cram into an hour-long mix, so instead what you're about to hear gives a representation of what L.E.S.S. was all about - re-imagining songs we all loved into a more DJ-friendly format. Simple. From the loose funk opening of Robert Palmer's"

House is House - Rushing to paradise (walking these streets) & Wang Chung

Here's a real piece of deep emotive house from NYC. Saw a vinyl release and they went fast, re-press (at questionable quality) is out there too. It's a lovely piece with no digital release so here ya go LINK

Get A BIG FAT WAV or 320 from JUNO

A good friend of mine has done a few edits but this was virgin territory - Wang Chung were an 80s one hit kinda band, i didn't recognise the title Dance Hall Days, but instantly remembered the track when I heard it, nice edit by Warm Sounds ...enjoy.

No more pop mood

Sisters EP - Pulp - A classy bit of Pop music, I was introduced to this one in a flat on the outskirts of Windsor by a very enthusiatic record collector called Ian B aka Fats, he had a real taste for getting on it and playing lots of good records, in a real Balearic spirit. He was not your average veggie either, very aggressive in his beliefs, big dogs, brandy & mdma spring to mind, plus various very detailed anecdotes, that would really hinge on you all getting into it, to really feel the punchline, lots of laughs. Bless him, I don't know where he's at now but this is for Fats LINK

Another from a bit later is 12" version of Smalltown Boy - Bronski Beat. I've heard my pal Dom Tuck play this out on various occasions and he seems to revel in the discomfort the intro tends to provoke in certain members of the audience. It is long, beatless, descriptive and dramatic, plus it's very subject matter and Jimmy Somerville's vocal are emotive, distinct and absolutely queer - when played loud is very powerful. What's not to like I say?? But it seems to disturb and unnerve quite a few people, even in open minded Brighton, I've seen booth complaints fly in during the build... but when it kicks, it's all smiles. It takes a bit of front to play this one out, but I urge you to DO IT! Eh Dom? LINK

Cage & Aviary - Hot cancel. Superb bit of live sounding indie/disco from these guys. It's a goodun. LINK

Red Rack'em, Hot Coins & Smuggler's Inn aka Danny

Been speaking to the man behind Red Rack'em & Hot Coins - hopefully about playing here in Brighton at some point in Spring 2010. His excellent podcast Smugglers Inn radio leaves me in little doubt that this man loves crate digging and jaunts in the name of vinyl, seem to happen fairly often with trips here there and everywhere, bearing fruit of the black waxed variety.

Here's his blog site, where you can also subscribe to the show. LINK

Here's a bit of background from the man himself.

I had a pretty good 2009 with quite a few high profile gigs. I was invited to play at Gilles Petersons Worldwide Awards in London at the start of the year and my DJ set was broadcast on Radio 1. I also played at Snowbombing, Glastonbury, Big Chill, Bestival and Matter plus I have had extensive Radio 1 support for my various projects from Gilles Peterson, Rob Da Bank, Mary Anne Hobbes. I also had quite a few releases on cool labels such as Tirk, Untracked, Deep Freeze, Autodiscoteque, Home Taping as well as remixing big names like The Revenge, Tricky and the Joubert Singers track 'Stand On The Word'..

Here's some mixes if you would like to check them out..

l had the honour of closing the Big Chill festival at the radio station this year where I played from 2-4am on the monday morning to a massive crowd of people. This set has been hosted on their site if you would like to check it out - http://www.bigchill.net/news/2009/10/red-rackem-on-big-chill-radio/

Red Bull have also hosted the set that I played earlier on that day at Big Chill here - http://redbullmusicacademyradio.com/shows/2004/

Facebook | beyond - launch party

Facebook | beyond - launch party

Looking forward to what should be an evening dedicated to Deep and Jackin House.

Here's the blurb:

Our music policy is simple; deep, grooving house music, guaranteed to make you dance! 'beyond' was born out of a demand for this style of House music in Brighton - and now you have it…

We've handpicked a selection of Brighton’s best Deep House DJs to help our first party really go off... These guys are playing because they play the coolest tunes out there!

Rich Harmer - One of our resident DJs and a true deep house fanatic, Rich has been peddling this sound for a number of years in Brighton. A veteran of the city's underground House scene and one half of the Contraband DJs (responsible for the infamous Inside Out parties)....

Kowboy K - The second of our Residents, Kowboy is another familiar face on the scene, being heavily involved as a DJ and promoter with the notorious Spanish party The Fiesta! Kowboy has the great tunes nobody else has heard, expect nothing but quality.

JACA (aka James Carruthers) - formally of the infamous party brand, Jack-It. James has spent a couple of years out of Brighton building a collection of excellent music and is now back and ready to pick-up where he left off. An all round nice guy too, and it’s always a pleasure to hear JACA play!

Ben Clift & Sam Humber - We first heard these guys playing b2b on upfrontdance.net a couple of months back. They are guaranteed to seamlessly mix an ass shakin' selection of music every time. This pair are a force to watch out for in Brighton during 2010.

This is a free party - see you there!
